Everything you need to know about EPICENTER Major (Dota 2)

The fourth and last Dota 2 Major of 2019 will took place in CSKA Arena in the capital of Russia. Like any other Dota 2 Major, EPICENTER Major is going to see the best rosters in the world such as Team Liquid, Team Secret, OG and so forth.

Technical information about the event

EPICENTER Major will begin on June 22nd and will last until June 30th. As said, it will take place in CSKA Arena in Moscow and if you can’t buy tickets to watch the last three days (which are only played in front of a crowd) live, EPICENTER Major is probably going to be streamed on EPICENTER Twitch channel, as well as on many other additional channels.

This event will use the same format as other Dota 2 Majors, so it will have Group Stage with four groups of four teams and Play-offs. Groups are using GSL format. The good thing is that all teams proceed further to Play-off, but top two teams are advancing to Upper Bracket, whereas bottom two teams are going to Lower Bracket.

In Play-off we have a double-elimination system. It means that teams who lose their match in Upper Bracket will have another chance to fight their way to Grand Final in Lower Bracket. The loss for teams in the Lower Bracket automatically means elimination. All matches are Best-of-3, excluding Lower Bracket Round 1 (Bo1) and Grand Final (Bo3).

Teams that compete at EPICENTER Major are playing for both money and Dita Pro Circuit Points. Here is how those are distributed:

  • 1st: $350,000 USD and 4,950 points
  • 2nd: $170,000 USD and 3,000 points
  • 3rd: $100,000 USD and 2,100 points
  • 4th: $80,000 USD and 1,350 points
  • 5th-6th: $60,000 USD and 900 points
  • 7th-8th: $40,000 USD and 450 points
  • 9th-12th: $15,000 USD and 150 points
  • 13th-16th: $10,000 USD and 75 points

What to expect?

Among sixteen teams who compete, the favorites for winning fourth Dota Major in the year are those who already had success this year in Majors. Hence, we can expect good results from ViCi Gaming and Team Secret who won the last three Majors (Team Secret won two), as well as from Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, and OG who also had a lot of success in recent past. Team Liquid and Virtus.pro played several finals and OG won the last International event.
